The well-travelled Trabona sisters are back! Vivienne (12) and Alyssa (15) share some of the places and experiences they hope to one day tick off their bucket lists. They have big dreams that span all corners of the world. After reading this, it’s likely you’ll want to add one or two of their ideas to your own bucket list!
What are the top three destinations on your travel bucket list and why?
A: I’d like to go to Greece because the beaches are beautiful, Africa because the wildlife is amazing and Mexico to try all of the incredible food.
V: I’d like to go to Mexico too, there are so many amazing places to explore and I’m curious to attend the Day of the Dead. I really want to climb Mount Everest so Nepal is on the list. Finally, I’m keen to live in Japan for a year and learn about all the traditions and local food.
Are there any destinations you have been dreaming about since childhood? Why do they appeal to you?
A: I’ve been dreaming about Africa as I have always wanted to go on safari and see all the animals.
V: My best friend moved to London a few years ago so I’d really like to go and visit her.
Are there any specific activities or experiences you want to have while travelling, such as bungee jumping or trying foods from other cultures?
A: Obviously, I would really love to go on a safari. I’m also curious about how different cultures cook and use spices and techniques when cooking their local cuisine. Learning about and experiencing these things is always a must for me wherever we travel.
I’d love to try bungee jumping too when I am older but I’m not sure where in the world that would be yet.
V: I would really love to do the Inca Trail one day, it looks amazing.
Are there any specific festivals or events you want to attend while travelling?
A: I want to attend Holi, the festival of colour, in India. The pictures I have seen look spectacular!
V: I’d like to experience the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), in Mexico. I’ve seen it in books and movies and it would be great to be there to see it happening in real life.
Are there any travel experiences that you are scared or nervous about, but still want to try?
A: Both my aunts have done the Inca Trail and I have heard amazing stories about it but I am wary of altitude sickness.
V: I’m also a bit worried about experiencing altitude sickness when I climb Mount Everest. I’m just hoping I can make it to the top without feeling sick.
Are there any travel experiences you have already had that you would like to revisit or explore more thoroughly?
A: I’d like to go back to America because there is so much to see. We’ve only visited a few places and it feels like we have just scratched the surface.
V: I thought both Vietnam and Sri Lanka were incredible and I would love to go back. The food, the people, the culture and the scenery were just spectacular.
What about closer to home? Do you have any places you’d like to visit or experiences you’d like to have in your city or state?
A: Byron Bay has beautiful beaches and we could make a quick trip to the Gold Coast to visit Dan and James (Topargee co-owners!).
V: I know it is not in my state but I would love to visit Uluru. This place is so important to the local Aboriginal people and I’d like to learn more about their history and culture.
Are there any destinations that you want to visit to learn a new language or immerse yourself in a new culture?
A: Brazil is number one on my list. It has amazing festivals and culture. I’d like to learn Portuguese and how to cook all of their cultural dishes.
V: My mum lived in Japan when she was younger and she is always sharing stories about her time there. I would love to have some of those same experiences.
Who do you hope to travel with and why? Or would you like to do some travelling on your own?
A: I would be keen to travel with my best friend Sophia. My sense of direction is not great so I probably would get lost if I travelled on my own!
V: As I mentioned before, my best friend Willow lives in London. I’d love to backpack around Europe with her.
Do you have any travel goals for the next year? Five years? Ten years? Is there something you would like to do before you turn a certain age?
A: This year we are going to Europe. In the next 5 years I would like to go skiing in Japan and within 10 years I want to travel to India, Mexico and Africa.
V: In the next 5 years I would like to go to Hawaii as I have never been and within 10 years I would love to go to Mexico and Nepal.
